Graduate School Hosts New Year Party for International Students

 

    On January 13, 2015 the graduate school of Khon Kaen University hosted a new year and thanks giving party to the teachers, staffs and students of Masters in Rural Development Management (MRDM) Program. The program has 18 international students from 11 different countries.

    Faculty, students and the staffs of the MRDM program attended the 3 hours-long party at the premises of the Graduate school at the Khon Kaen University. Dean of the Graduate School, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surasakdi Wongratanacheewin inaugurated the party and wished students a happy and prosperous new year. Speaking during the program he said that, “I want to wish a very happy, prosperous and healthy new year for all the students. I also wish for your academic and personal success.” He also expressed his happiness to see 18 international students in a single course at the university.

    “I am very grateful for the kind support that I have got from the dean and the graduate school for this course”, said Chair of the MRDM program Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somsak Srisontisuk. Speaking at the ceremony he added that he is determined to support and help all the students to complete the very compact course within the stated time frame.

    Speaking at the program, international students from Cameroon, Nepal, Cambodia, Tanzania and Kenya expressed their feelings of being a part of the course. Students also shared about their culture and the cultural difference that they faced in Thailand. “Thai people are so welcoming and smiling, they are very helpful”, said Kenyan student John Gikinya Kibuika. Talking about the food and culture of Thailand, Tanzanian student Margreth Dionis Mjindo said that she likes the Thai food and her favorite food is Somtam (Papaya Salad). Adding more about the experience students from Nepal and Cameroon added that they are privileged to study the development management staying in a developing country like Thailand.

    Dean of the graduate school, Dr. Surasakdi Wongratancheewin distributed year planner and souvenir as the New Year gift to all the students before the program formally closed. Students and faculty also exchanged gifts and wishes during the party. The party ended with music, fun games and delicious local Thai food.
